Donald Loftus spent over 30 years in the fragrance industry with international firms from Yves St Laurent and Estee Lauder to Proctor & Gamble. All the while he was an avid theatre goer and part-time playwright, developing his craft and getting some plays read here and there. Now he is turning out plays full time, and recently won the prestigious W Keith Hedrick national Playwrighting Award for 2019, with his plays being staged and performed all across America and the UK. In our area his one act “Eddie and Edna” was performed in the 10 x 10 Festival at Barrington Stage in Pittsfield last winter and his short play “Dark Matter” was performed at Theatre Works in New Milford and will have been performed at the One Act Play Festival at Sharon Playhouse on Nov 2. Donald’s work has been presented as part of new playwright’s festivals in California (The American Renegade Theatre) and in New York (The Vagabond Theatre). A number of his plays and musicals have been presented as Equity Staged Readings. In addition, he has been chosen to participate in Ten-Minute Play Festivals including “Pizza & Plays” at Lucky Jack’s, NYC, “DGPG TEN by TEN” at The Player’s Club, NYC, and The Times Square Playwright’s TEN-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL at Ryan’s Daughter in NYC.

Donald’s work includes dramas, (“THE SPRINGVALE ARMADILLO”, “PER” and “EDDIE & EDNA”), comedies (“WILLY & THE MUSES”, “MAID TO MEASURE” and “THE BROTHER’S GRIN”) and the book and lyrics for several musicals (“ABBEY VICTORIA”, “POLLYANNA” and “’ROUND DUFFY SQUARE”).
Donald also serves on the Board of Directors for The Dramatist Guild Foundation (DGF) and The Women's Project Theatre (WP) and is an active member of two NYC playwright’s development groups, The DGPG, (Dramatist Guild Playwriting Group) and TSP (Times Square Playwrights & The Actors Who Act For Them).
